Florida Center for Universal Research to Eradicate Disease (FL CURED) Advisory Council Service Opportunity Announced
Applications for anticipated vacancies on the FL CURED Advisory Council are being solicited through June 12, 2009. Interested parties can
download and submit a short questionnaire
Applicants would then be recommended to the organizations named in section 381.855, Florida Statutes for nomination to the State Surgeon General who then would make appointments.
Members are appointed to serve up to four-year terms. There are 16 seats on the Council and a chair is elected from within. By statute, the Council must meet once per year but other interactions via conference calls and web meetings are frequent.
The role of the Council is to study issues pertinent to the mission of FL CURED and to advise the program on initiatives it undertakes. FL CURED’s vision is that Florida’s medical research efforts expedite the discovery of cures that will relieve human suffering and premature death. Its mission is to champion Florida’s efforts to cure diseases by engaging in activities
that expedite the discovery of cures and promoting practices that accelerate the implementation of cures. Additionally, the Council helps to formulate recommendations the Legislature on policies that create a favorable climate for biomedical research within Florida. Boards or advisory bodies that fall under the purview of the Department of Health are encouraged to
seek equal representation of women and men and the inclusion of persons who are knowledgeable and sensitive to gender and diversity issues.
