Applications for four BRAC seats to be appointed by Governor Crist are being accepted through February 12, 2009. Members serve three year terms and can be considered for a second term.
Candidates should indicate on their application one or more specific seats for which they wish to be considered. According to Section 215.5602, Florida Statutes,
the Governor can appoint two members with expertise in the field of biomedical research, one member from a research university in the state, and one member representing the general population of the state.
In making these appointments, the Governor’s primary consideration will be to select Floridians with biomedical and lay expertise in the general areas of tobacco diseases, cancer, cardiovascular disease, stroke, and pulmonary disease.
Expertise in the area of biotechnology or commercialization will also be considered. According to Section 381.04015(3)(c), Florida Statutes, Boards or advisory bodies that fall under the purview of the
Department of Health shall be encouraged to seek equal representation of women and men and the inclusion of persons who are knowledgeable
