The Office of Statewide Research proudly announces the selection of Mr. Chuck Wells, M.S., C.H.E.S. as the Program Coordinator for the James and Esther King Biomedical Research Program, the Center for Universal Research to Eradicate Disease (CURED), and the Florida Cancer Council. The Biomedical Research Program is a multi-million dollar program that awards research grants to Florida scientists studying the prevention and cure of tobacco related illnesses. Since 2001, the program has sponsored 64 projects. In addition to managing and improving the Biomedical Research Program, Mr. Wells will take the lead in establishing CURED and the Florida Cancer Council, which the Legislature established in 2004.
Most recently, Mr. Wells was with MQA (Florida Department of Health Division of Medical Quality Assurance) in Testing Services where he was a program administrator. Mr. Wells has a Masters degree in health education, is a Certified Health Education Specialist (C.H.E.S.) and has taught as an adjunct instructor at TCC (Tallahassee Community College ) since 1991. He has extensive experience in program start-up, project management, and working with volunteer boards as a result of stints with the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports, USA Cycling, and the Florida Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Additionally, Mr. Wells has a background in instructional design (Department of Children and Families) and training and development (Florida State University).
