The intent of this grant mechanism is to provide interim support for promising cancer-related investigator-initiated research projects that have been highly rated by national panels of peer reviewers in recent federal competitions but were not funded due to budgetary constraints. Allowable federal competitions include those conducted by the National Institutes of Health (including the National Cancer Institute), the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Programs for Breast Cancer Research or Prostate Cancer Research, the National Science Foundation, the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, the Health Resources and Services Administration, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration.
The maximum award for Bridge grants is $200,000 over a 12-month period and is expected to start July 1 and end the following year on June 30.
The intent of this program is to foster development of new investigators so that they can undertake independent research that is competitive for national research funding. Projects are carried out under the mentorship of a senior investigator. Proposals must address an important biomedical or behavioral problem relevant to tobacco-related disease.
The maximum annual award for NIR grants is $125,000 with a maximum of $375,000 over a 36-month period (amounts subject to change). Initial awards are for a period of 12-months and are expected to start July 1 and end the following year on June 30.
The purpose of this grant program is to support a broadly based, often multi-disciplinary research program with a well defined major objective or theme addressing the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, or cure of tobacco-related disease and resulting in application at the national level to continue the research program over the long term. Specifically, the intent of the program is to promote applications and make Florida institutions competitive for high-level awards, such as National Institutes of Health program project (P-01) awards or research center (P-30) awards.
A TSP project generally involves the organized efforts of relatively large groups, members of which are conducting research projects designed to elucidate the various aspects or components of the overall objective. The TSP project is usually under the overall leadership of a Program Director who is usually a recognized senior investigator.
The maximum annual award for TSP grants is $500,000 with a maximum of $1,000,000 over a 24-month period (amounts subject to change). Initial awards are for a period of 12-months and are expected to start July 1 and end the following year on June 30.
The intent of this program is to help biomedical researchers at Florida universities or research institutions form collaborations with Florida-based small businesses in order to initiate private-sector commercialization of technology. The objective is to establish the technical/scientific merit and feasibility of the proposed research and development efforts, so that the project may become competitive for national-level development funding.
The maximum award for SBTT grants is $100,000 over a 12-month period (amounts subject to change) and is expected to start July 1 and end the following year on June 30.
